FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE COURSE

.

What computer equipment do I need?

Course participants must have access to a computer ith Internet access and
email for at least three hours per week. Microsoft nternet Explorer is
recommended -- participants using Netscape have eported problems. If you
do not have a computer, check your local library.

Do the regulations taught in the course apply in the United States
and/or other countries?

The fundraising course will focus primarily on Canada. While many
fundraising techniques are the same in Canada and in many other countries,
there are significant differences in regulations, statistics and data. We
will focus on the Canadian version. From time to time we will point out
sources of comparable information, but it will not be possible to make this
course complete for the USA and other countries.

Do I need a password?

Yes. Once your payment is received, your enrollment will be confirmed by email. 48 hours before the start of the course, you will receive your user ID, password and the web site address for the course. You will then get access to reading materials, interactive lessons, discussions groups and answers to your emailed
questions.

How much does the course cost?

"The Fundamentals of Fundraising" costs only $95 per participant. The regular cost is $130. Fees for the program are subsidized by Volunteer action Online (Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture).

Should more than one person from my group enrol in this course?

Yes! We encourage organizations to register at least two people for each course - staff, board and volunteers - to effectively build your organizational capacity.

What is the format for the course - what do the participants actually do each week? How much are they expected to read, write etc.?

Each week participants will spend from one to three hours on-line:

    - reading "how-to" materials
    - communicating with each through email to developing an online peer network
    - debating hot issues
    - participating in quizzes, surveys or chatroom activities
    - visiting interesting web sites and commenting on them
    - preparing sample work plans and getting feedback from Ken Wyman and peers
    - contributing news on funding opportunities
    - reacting to news sent by Ken Wyman
    - asking (and answering) questions
    - telling us how the course could be even better.

What is the minimum time commitment expected per week?
From one to three hours per week. Every week for the duration of the course.

Is the time flexible or do they have to be at their computers at a specific time each week?
Flexible except for one or two live online chats when everyone needs to be online at the same time to participate.

Will sections of the materials be available to non-participants?
Our plans are - so far - are to provide the three books by Ken Wyman as
free PDF downloads. You have to be a registered Greenability student for
everything else.

Can I access all the materials ahead of time?
The course will not be open until shortly before the announced start date and participants will not have access to the web site prior to this date. You will have full access to all the material the duration of the course. You will be able to download and save much of the course material so you can refer to it over and over again at your leisure.

Is this course designed for my organization?
Basic fund raising information and concepts apply to a wide range of organizational situations. Although the course has been designed with "mid-range" environmental nonprofits in mind, we estimate that 80% of the curriculum and discussion are relevant to most other nonprofits.

I will not be able to access the course for a couple of weeks (out of
the country or working on an assignment). Will I be able to make up the
work?

The course is designed so that each week a new section is posted and participants share their views and questions on specific questions through the discussion boards. You can certainly read the materials posted and add your comments to the discussions on your return.

Will there be a certificate at the end of the course?
No official certification is provided but we can issue a "Greenability Certificate".
